This meter has been developed to support Railway’s need for a rugged and consistently accurate Load Ammeter for Diesel Electric Locomotives like WDM2/DEMU etc. This meter has been developed to overcome the disadvantages of needle type meters and has the following advantages over them.
Advantages over usual needle type meters:
- moving parts and hence no wear.
- No delicate spring/needle to get damaged.
- No permanent magnet, no degeneration of magnetic field and therefore no need to calibrate often.
- Much better expected life than the needle type. Expected seven years with minimal service.
- Much better visibility in poor lighting condition as LEDs themselves glow. No requirement of gage lighting.
- No requirement of series resistance
- Solid & rugged, dust, water and insect resistant case.
- Lighted colour bars for indicating normal condition, caution etc.
The display is ergonomically designed & driver’s attention need not be diverted from track to get a feel of magnitude.
These type of meters have passed various tests, loco trial and led to part-I approval by DLW.
